There are many reasons why the North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries is uniquely successful in achieving its mission to serve Christian and educational charitable purposes. But the most obvious reason is our unique ability to be donor focused.
There are lots of foundations but few can have the level of donor focus that is inherent with the Foundation. This is not just a subtilty to be blown up into an over stated selling point, but it is a significant difference that it should be stated.
The Foundation is quite unique in that its focus is primarily on the donor’s wishes. The needs of the beneficiaries are important, but the recommendation of the donor, who advises the Foundation, is given first consideration. This is the normal practice of the Foundation. As long as the donor’s wishes are within the broad mission of the Foundation, its Board of Directors will do all that is possible to honor the wishes of the donor. This is something many of our donors have realized is unique about the Foundation.
Since the North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries serves a broader base of beneficiaries, the donor may certainly ask the Foundation Board to consider a change in how the future proceeds from an endowment are distributed, if changes are warranted. There are rules and regulations that foundations are subject to, but there is also more flexibility with the North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries than with most other foundations. This is due to the fact we can provide services to many different beneficiaries.
This is a good solution for everyone. It is certainly good for the donor, whose wishes are carried out, but it is also good for the beneficiary. Thinking back to the example, the homeless children in a particular community will still get needed support regardless of changes that might occur in other nonprofit organizations.
The Foundation's unique donor focus is certainly good for the donor and the beneficiary, but it can also be good for the other foundations as well.
If a potential donor is reluctant to support a nonprofit foundation due to uncertainty about how it may function in the future, then that donor may choose to establishes an endowment for the nonprofit with the North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries instead. This way, the nonprofit can be named as the beneficiary without the donor uncertainty.
This is a solution that is good for everyone and its one of the many unique aspects of the North Carolina Foundation for Christian Ministries that our donors appreciate.
The Foundation invites everyone to become involved in doing good things through philanthropic support of their church, favorite ministry, or community group. There are many creative ways the Foundation can assist you. We hope you will join us in “helping good people do good things.”
